Socrates Safo Debunks Claims on Telenovela Ban on all TV Stations

The alleged ban on telenovelas in Ghana, starting from May 1, 2021 has been clarified.

Director for creative arts of national arts commission and chairman of film classification committee, Socrates Sarfo has debunked the claim from some individuals that telenovelas will be banned in Ghana.

Socrates Sarfo has cleared the air on the classification and ban of film content shown on television. Speaking to Akwasi Ofori, on the Kantanka morning show Fontomfom said all they are saying is, any TV channels must show contents that are classified before. The classifications must include the criteria of the content as follows; U, PG, 12, 18, A and X.

When asked about the ban on telenovelas, Mr. Sarfo answered confidently that, the committee has not banned telenovelas in Ghana but rather, all television stations must present their content being it local or foreign for approval before it can be telecasted.

Finally, Mr. Sarfo made it clear that all their effort to sanitize the system are back by the 1992 constitution and hence any individual or group who fails to comply will be dealt with accordingly
