Committee To Monitor Broadcast Content To Be Established – Oppong Nkrumah

The Ministry of Information led by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has in a statement hinted the establishing of a committee to monitor the broadcast of content in the country.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at the Stakeholders’ Consultative Meeting, said with regards to the issues pertaining the surge in unethical broadcast contents in the country.

He went on to say that, the National Media Commission (NMC), the National Communications Authority (NCA), the National Security Secretariat, the Bank of Ghana, the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Office of the Attorney-General has agreed to set up the committee to examine and analyze reports of unethical content broadcasted by television stations as well as mete out punitive actions against offenders.

The unethical content which includes content that is offensive to National Security, public order, public morality, against the reputations, rights and freedoms of other persons will be flagged by the committee.

The joint stakeholder group will also recommend appropriate measures to regulate recommendations for the issuance (and publication) of warnings, recommendations for the suspension of frequency authorization and the withdrawal of frequency authorization by the NCA.
