INVEST IN THE TOURISM SECTOR – GITAC URGED GOVERNMENT
The Executive Director of the Ghana India Trade Advisory chamber (GITAC), Mr. Charles Owusu Boakye has urged Government to invest in the tourism sector in order to increase its targeted 2019 budget revenue.
In an interview with Kobina Ebo Sam, host of one of Kantanka TV social developmental programs “Nsԑm” on the topic Review of Sector Performance in the 2019 budget, Mr. Charles Boakye reiterated that roads leading to our various tourist sites are in a deplorable state; therefore the ministry need to recruits Professors and experts who are well vested in tourism education in the country to provide quality and appropriate guidelines for the sector in order to boost tourism and as well improve in nation building. He said, tourism industry is a viable venture the Government needs to invest to increase the revenue base in the country.
The Executive Director throwing more light to buttress his point said the tourism sector is not growing as expected because the Government is not investing much in the sector in terms of roads, human capitals amongst others.
Moreover, he cited Kenya and other countries that rely on tourism as their source of income relating to Ghana which is much endowed with natural resources where tourism would be an additional revenue mobilization of the country.
On the other hand, Mr. Charles Owusu Boakye also urged Government to allocate some amount for soil research saying, Ghana can increase its cocoa production above its targeted 1million metric tons as stated in the 2019 budget. He continued swollen shoot which affects cocoa in the country should not be a menace but rather the ministry of food and Agriculture needs to be tasked to embark on more research in to the soil for the arrest of this swollen shoot disease in order to increase our cocoa production.
Speaking on the PPE cause of delay in 1D1F project on the same program, an economist and a financial consultant, Dr. Ebenezer Ashley added his voice saying Ghanaians are not very prudent when it comes to partnering the Government to enter into a viable venture unlike Nigerians who invest so much in the creation of jobs in the country. He added 1D1F is a very good initiative but need to be executed well to create more jobs in the country to reduce unemployment.
He concluded by urging all Ghanaians to rally behind the Government to support such a viable initiative.
