SWIFT GNFS RESPONSE SAVES SEVERAL ADJOINING STRUCTURES AS FIRE RAZES 107 WOODEN HUTS AT ABOABO EXTENSION

A rapid intervention by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Friday, 21st November 2025, prevented a devastating fire at Aboabo Extension, near Mighty Royal International School from spreading to several nearby structures.

A rapid intervention by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Friday, 21st November 2025, prevented a devastating fire at Aboabo Extension, near Mighty Royal International School from spreading to several nearby structures.

The fire, which engulfed 107 wooden makeshift dwellings occupied by over 100 squatters, was first tackled by the public using buckets of water before firefighters arrived to contain the blaze.

Two (2) pumps from the Manhyia and KNUST Fire Stations were dispatched, with the Manhyia tender arriving at 09:55 hours. Reinforcement from KNUST helped bring the blaze under control at 10:21 hours and fully extinguish it at 1028 hours. Despite the total loss of the affected wooden structures and their contents, no casualties were recorded.

The swift efforts of the firefighters successfully confined the fire to a quarter-hectare area, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes and facilities. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
