MEDICAL STAFF MUST BE OBJECTIVE IN FOLLOWING COVID-19 PROTOCOLS – UCC LECTURER WARNS

On 30th August 2020, the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Akuffo Addo, addressed the nation on measures taken against the Spread of COVID-19 where he highlighted some important factors of the restrictions laid on the country.

In his address, he relieved some restrictions and maintained other restrictions which he considers as still dangerous to relieve them. Some of the important restrictions the President relieved include Senior High School (SHS) 2 and Junior High School (JHS) 2 students returning to school on 5th October, 2020 to complete their academic year, Opening of Kotoka International Airport and other restrictions.

The president went ahead to disclose that land and sea borders remain closed until further notice and contact sports activities still being banned.

In this regard, Senior Lecturer at University of Cape Coast, Dr. Ebenezer Gyamera has expressed his joy over the ease of restrictions on the air borders. He said that medical staff at the airports should be objective in following the required protocols.

He went ahead to say that all protocols to check individuals that come into the country should be followed regardless of their status, or the positions to hold.

He said, “nobody is above the law, the President said it doesn’t matter someone’s religious, political or social affiliations, that person must strictly follow the safety protocols to ensure that this pandemic is eradicated from Ghana for good”.

He cited an instance using it as an advice to frontline health workers making reference to an insubordination of some health workers in Cape Coast who due to their insubordination and negligence led to the spread of COVID 19 within the region.

He further said the laid down systems by the President and other stakeholders should be monitored for a period of time before further ease of restrictions will be made. He made these comments in an interview on ‘Fontomfrom’ morning show on Kantanka Television.
