Most of them than not political parties use the cost of infrastructure as part of their campaign message and this has been called out to be improper by a Road and Building Consultant Ing. Mahama Abdulai.

In an interview he stated that it is wrong to politicize the cost of infrastructure. He stated that these comparisons can be very deceiving and turn away from the main focus in construction. This statement was made in regards to the ongoing political debate between the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the construction of some roads in the country.

He said, “You can have a road and the next kilometer the soil is so good and you don’t have to do any carting to go beyond the existing ground”. The two political parties are seen in the news going back and forth over the costs of the Kwame Nkrumah, Pokuase, Tema, Tamela and Obetsebi Lamptey interchanges.

At a recent town hall meeting, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia said the cost of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange undertaken by the NDC government was almost the same as the sum for the construction of the Tamale, Tema, Pokuase and Obetsebi Lamptey interchange.

He made more emphasis on the fact that the NDC government failed to utilize finances properly in constructing the Kwame Nkrumah interchange and have thereby not been truthful to Ghanaians.

For this reason, Ing Mahama Abdulai made it clearer that these forms of comparisons are very deceptive and unnecessary. Giving reason that these comparisons undermine the factors that actually go into construction and not only the costs involved.
