CAMPAIGNING FOR NDC HAS AFFECTED MY MUSIC CARRER – MZBEL LAMENTS
Controversial songstress and songwriter, Mzbel, known in real life as Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah is a Ghanaian Hiplife Artiste and one of the most popular female musicians Ghana has ever had. Known for her controversial traits, Mzbel has always played controversial music and followed it up with controversial comments that are sure to get her fans and Ghanaians talking.
This time to some of her fans, she has for a long time made a pleasant comment in her life lamenting the negative impact her political party status disclosure in 2016 thereby campaigning for the ruling party then, National Democratic Congress(NDC) has had on her music career.
In an interview on the first edition of Kantanka TV’s entertainment show, Link Up with host Mona Gucci, Mzbel explained that since she publicly identified herself as a sympathiser of NDC in 2016, she has never gotten the opportunity to perform at a musical function both in Ghana and overseas. She continued that, anytime the opportunity comes to go and perform, she is later denied with that opportunity by organizers of the show with the excuse that their sponsors are not in support of her being on the show so in order not to loose them, they drop her on the show and she thinks it’s all because of her political affiliation with NDC which has caused this.
She added that, she has been a sympathiser of NDC since her childhood which will never change but when given the chance again to publicly campaign for a specific political party, she would not like to do it so she does not put her music career in danger.
“The moment you disclose your political affiliation in Ghana, you end your career if you are an entertainer but it’s not the case in the Wester world”, she stated. According to her she has not been able to redefine her music career afterwards and now she is managing a restaurant and a media firm shooting Television and radio commercials for business purposes and other businesses she is trying to put up.
She however revealed that, the advantage and benefit to her campaigning for NDC was to accept a ministerial role if they would have been in power. “I would have grabbed the minister for Tourism and Creative Arts Ministry myself even if I wasn’t appointed to that position”, she added.
When Mona Gucci asked her about the perception that, she is no more seriously into music because she is faded out and cannot compete with the young musicians who have back to back hits, she explained that she doesn’t have it in mind to compete with anyone but she thinks it’s time to allow the younger generation to take over the music scene because she also had her time then with a lot of hits songs so she cannot do exactly what the younger ones are doing now.
