SPORTS MINISTRY WASTED MILLION OF DOLLARS WITHOUT TROPHY
The Black Stars suffered their worst performance in Africa’s flagship football after exiting the competition at the round of 16 stage. For the past ten years in every AFCON tournament, the Black stars are always among the top four teams but this year it wasn’t so.
However, it’s the money spent on the Black stars team that has generated a debate in the West African Nation.
The country’s sports minister Hon. Isaac Asiamah told Ghanaians in parliament that 4.5 million dollars was spent on the team.
In 2015 AFCON hosted by Gabon, Ghana spent 5.8million dollars in the tournament and were finalist against Ivory Coast and in 2017 AFCON hosted by Equatorial Guinea, Ghana spent 3.37million dollars and got to the semi-finals of the competition. However, in this years tournament in Egypt, Ghana exited the competition in the round 16 stage and spent 4.5 million dollars as it is said by Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah.
Ghana have spent a lot of money on the current Black Stars team with the aim of winning the ultimate but always to no avail.
Algeria who won the trophy received 4.5million dollars, Senegal went home with 2.5million dollars Nigeria and Tunisia received 2million dollars each.
The minister also confirmed that the Government flew journalist and supporters to Egypt for the tournament, he however did not indicate how much of the tax payers money was spent during his presentation in parliament.
Kantankatv.com can confirm that an amount of 20,000 dollars was giving to the players as appearance fee, but this said amount wasn’t captured in the Budget presented by the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah.
The AFCON trophy has eluded the Black Stars for Thirty seven (37) years now, and for that reason introducing of huge sum of money into the team has been describe as the medicine or the antidote to assist the Black stars win the AFCON trophy.
